Simple Delegated Group Management

Simple Delegated Group Management

What is it?

The Simple Delegated Group Management app allows admins to designate other users to manage the memberships of specific groups on an admin’s behalf.

This app is only intended to manage Confluence Cloud’s own groups - not any groups coming from corporate directories.

Usage

The entry point is the same for admins and users allowed to manage groups. In the sidebar, you will find the entry “Delegated Group Management” under Apps:

Admins

Admins have two tabs. In the first tab (My groups), they see the groups they are allowed to manage through this app; in the second tab (Delegation settings), they can configure delegated group management.

The relevant UI elements are:

  • With “Add group,” an admin can select any existing Confluence group for delegated group management.

  • The “Delegate” is the admin whose account is used to perform the membership changes. This is necessary due to restrictions that apply to all Confluence Cloud apps.

  • Under “Allowed users to manage the group,” an admin can specify up to 50 individuals who are allowed to manage group memberships.

Users allowed to manage group members

Users who are allowed to manage groups will see all the groups they are permitted to manage. The “Manage members” button next to the group name is used to add or remove group members.

Observation/Question

Explanation/Answer

I added/removed a user but when I open the dialog again after a short time this change is not reflected.

Sometimes it takes a while before the change is visible throughout Atlassian’s Cloud infrastructure - just wait.
